VI-22
The fruit of meditation is Samadhi. Samadhi is super conscious state, wherein the Yogi gets
superintuitional or supersensual knowledge and Supersensual bliss. He gets the vision of the Lord. He is in a state of communion with the Lord. He is in full enjoyment of the Divine Ecstasy or Divine cThrill. He has seen the Light of lights now.
The five afflictions, reference to which was made in Lesson I, have now come to an end. All sorts of imperfections have disappeared. Just as the river has joined the sea, the individual soul has joined the Supreme Soul. All limitations have dropped now. This state cannot be described in words: It has to he felt by actual practice. There are neither wants nor desires here. All doubts and delusions, all sorrows and tribulations, all fears, differences, distinctions and dualities have vanished entirely. This is the ultimate goal of all spiritual practices. This is the goal of life. Samadhi is the eighth step of the Yogic ladder. Intuition, revelation, inspiration and ecstasy are all synonymous terms. The meditator and the meditated, the thinker and the thought, the worshipper and the worshipped, the subject and the object have now become identical. The meditator has merged himself in the Soul or the all-pervading Spirit. All watertight compartments have disappeared. The Yogi feels oneness and unity everywhere. He feels: “I have nothing more to learn. I have nothing more to do. I have nothing more to obtain.” That which is night of all beings is the time of waking for the illumined Yogi; when other
beings are waking, then it is night for him. Yajnavalkya, the greatest Yogi says: “By Pranayama
impurities of the body are destroyed; by Dharana or concentration impurities of the mind. By
Pratyahara the impurities of attachment and by Samadhi everything that hides the Soul is removed.” Samadhi is of two kinds viz., Savikalpa Samadhi and Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Savikalpa is a lower Samadhi. In the Savikalpa Samadhi the Samskaras or latent impressions are not fried in toto. There is support for the mind. There is still the triad of subtle type viz., the seer, sight and seen, or the knower, knowledge and knowable. So Savikalpa Samadhi cannot give full satisfaction, full freedom, full bliss and knowledge.
From - SRI SWAMI SIVANANDA

Light Meditation

(Buddhist value: The children learn about the importance of offering
lights to the Buddha and its significance in the Buddhist context) Imagine that you are a lotus candle. It is of this climax that we must speak, for this is a matter of "experience," and a very striking one. In the course of our concentration we noticed that the contents of the mind at any moment consisted of two things, and no more: the Object, variable, and the Subject, invariable, or apparently so. By success in Dharana the object has been made as invariable as the subject. Now the result of this is that the two become one. This phenomenon usually comes as a tremendous shock. It is indescribable even by the masters of language; and it is therefore not surprising that semi-educated stutterers wallow in oceans of gush. All the poetic faculties and all the emotional faculties are thrown into a sort of ecstasy by an occurrence which overthrows the mind, and makes the rest of life seem absolutely worthless in comparison. Good literature is principally a matter of clear observation and good judgment expressed in the simplest way. For this reason none of the great events of history (such as earthquakes and battles) have been well described by eye-witnesses, unless those eye-witnesses were out of danger. But even when one has become accustomed to Dhyana(Meditation) by constant repetition, no words seem adequate. One of the simplest forms of Dhyana may be called "the Sun." The sun is seen (as it were) by itself, not by an observer; and although the physical eye cannot behold the sun, one is compelled to make the statement that this "Sun" is far more brilliant than the sun of nature. The whole thing takes place on a higher level. Also the conditions of thought, time, and space are abolished. It is impossible to explain what this really means: only experience can furnish you with apprehension. (This, too, has its analogies in ordinary life; the conceptions of higher mathematics cannot be grasped by the beginner, cannot be explained to the layman.) A further development is the appearance of the Form which has been universally described as human; although the persons describing it proceed to add a great number of details which are not human at all. This particular appearance is usually assumed to be "God." But, whatever it may be, the result on the mind of the student is tremendous; all his thoughts are pushed to their greatest development. He sincerely believes that they have the divine sanction; perhaps he even supposes that they emanate from this "God." He goes back into the world armed with this intense conviction {32} and authority. He proclaims his ideas without the restraint which is imposed upon most persons by doubt, modesty, and diffidence;<<footnote: this="" lack="" of="" restraint="" not="" to="" be="" confused="" with="" that="" observed="" in="" intoxication="" and="" yet="" there="" is="" very="" striking="" though="" only="" a="" superficial="">> while further there is, one may suppose, a real clarification. In any case, the mass of mankind is always ready to be swayed by anything thus authoritative and distinct. History is full of stories of officers who have walked unarmed up to a mutinous regiment, and disarmed them by the mere force of confidence. The power of the orator over the mob is well known. It is, probably, for this reason that the prophet has been able to constrain mankind to obey his law. I never occurs to him that any one can do otherwise. In practical life one can walk past any guardian, such as a sentry or ticket-collector, if one can really act so that the man is somehow persuaded that you have a right to pass unchallenged.
</footnote:>

Speaking Mindfully - Part 2

Do Your Best that’s EnoughSitting is not the highest level of practice; to be able to live in the world mindfully is No need to sit for hours on end. Sit as long as you can, do your best. at’s enough.Vedana, is not only pleasant or unpleasant feeling. When you smell something and you feel like you want to eat, when you see a pretty girl and you feel like you want to have it, that is also Vedana. When greed arises look particularly for the specific characteristics (form, taste), that make you want it so much, look at it carefully. Do you really want it so much? Just how much? For how long?Viriya is the effort you make to be constantly observing the noting mind. When the mind is tired and not strong enough change to an easier object (in sitting). Now and then look in the mind and body, check for tension.Use the noting mind as your reference point-anchor and the other minds as objects. In this practice the noting mind is the anchor.Do not do a word of contemplation as you are sitting. It weakens the mind, it weakens sati and samadhi. Even a ‘why’ or ‘what’ is bad enough. the mind gets tired in a way that it loses energy and needs rebuilding. When it comes to knowing for yourself, you do not need to use words because you already know what it is. In fact when you start knowing really subtle sensations and mind states, no words can describe them because words are mostly for all the gross realities we know. So words are really not helpful, they can even get in the way.ought is immaterial, it happens in the mind. the mind is immaterial. (Immaterial here means: not of matter).Don’t negotiate with hindrances and unprofitable things. Look at them straight in the eye, look straight into that mind.Whatever it is it will disappear and won’t come back. So learn to speak mindfully.Speak with awareness, listen with awareness. As soon as you are approached by people alert yourself to be mindful with talking, without getting emotionally involved.Watch out when the other person stops talking and its your turn to speak.Don’t rush into it out of control, like we usually do and lose our mindfulness.Speak slowly and short so that the other person slows down too.Speak mindfully and to the point. Don’t over speak and get carried away. In life you have to be able to do both or spend all your life in a silent meditation centre. In order to keep mindful when you speak, don’t follow your emotions.e moment you start liking this or disliking that, the mind gets carried away. Every phrase you say look at the mind over and over again and check for right speech and mindfulness. e mind has to try to be aware of itself.Try to be aware all the time of the mind watching the mind.Keep the finger on the big one!Keep the finger on the big one means: Are you in control now or not? Is the mind collected or scattered? Maintain that distance between object and knowing mind. Stay with the ‘one step up mind’. Apply this to all practices. When your mind has a lot to do, has to do more work, it progresses better.Watch the mind all the time. en you will understand how it works. en you will be able to do everything and be watching the mind: reading, writing, speaking, going out in the city, and so on. You will be an observer, watching a show! When you feel discomfort, pain, agitation, that is the moment to look into your mind! (With all practices). No noting! is is true Vipassana!

From - THE WAY OF ATTAINMENT OF GENIUS

Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw

This is not easy. One feels not up to commenting about this Sayadaw. So this will be just an attempt to make him a little known to you if you have not yet heard of him.e Sayadaw’s monks Pali name is Ashin Kosalla and he was born or the th of September . It is the custom in Burma that well established sayadaws are given the name of the area they live in and teach. Most people know him as the most senior monk in the Mahasi Sayadaw’s Sangha who forty years ago left the Mahasi Sangha and started teaching in a modest and frugal monastery, the way he believed it really did justice to the practice. However he says that this is not his way of teaching, but the Buddha’s own. After Mahasi Sayadaw died in , Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw was offered the most prestigious position of being the incumbent teacher of the Mahasi Yeiktha. He declined the offer because it would not allow him ‘enough time for practising’ he said! And practice is another thing the Sayadaw is famous for. He has been practising every day of his life and he still is practising all day every day at the age of !e Sayadaw is very well known and respected in Myanmar (Burma), as well as outside Myanmar for being very advanced in his practice, but there is also something very different about him that you cannot miss. He is nothing like any other well-known ‘big time’ sayadaws and he is not interested in being one. e absence of ‘ego’ on that monk is so obvious that it can be seen even in photographs!Something else you cannot miss is that this  years old Dhamma teacher is always aware and sharp.Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw does not teach any longer.
from - Contemplation of the Mind

Dhyana - Part 1

THIS word has two quite distinct and mutually exclusive meanings. The first refers to the result itself. Dhyana(Meditation) is the same word as the Pali "Jhana." The Buddha counted eight Jhanas, which are evidently different degrees and kinds of trance. The Hindu also speaks of Dhyana as a lesser form of Samadhi. Others, however, treat it as if it were merely an intensification of Dharana. Patanjali says: "Dhrana is holding the mind on to some particular object. An unbroken flow of knowledge in that subject is Dhyana(Meditation). When that, giving up all forms, reflects only the meaning, it is Samadhi." He combines these three into Samyama. We shall treat of Dhyana(Meditation) as a result rather than as a method. Up to this point ancient authorities have been fairly reliable guides, except with regard to their crabbed ethics; but when they get on the subject of results of meditation, they completely lose their heads. They exhaust the possibilities of poetry to declare what is demonstrably untrue. For example, we find in the Shiva Sanhita that "he who daily contemplates on this lotus of the heart is eagerly desired by the daughters of Gods, has clairaudience, clairvoyance, and can walk in the air." Another person "can make gold, discover medicine for disease, and see hidden treasures." All this is filth. What is the curse upon religion that its tenets must always be associated with every kind of extravagance and falsehood? There is one exception; it is the A.'.A.'., whose members are extremely careful to make no statement at all that cannot be verified in the usual manner; or where this is not easy, at least avoid anything like a dogmatic statement. In Their second book of practical instruction, Liber O, occur these words: "By doing certain things certain results will follow. Students are most earnestly warned against attributing objective reality or philosophical validity to any of them." Those golden words! In discussing Dhyana, then, let it be clearly understood that something unexpected is about to be described. We shall consider its nature and estimate its value in a perfectly unbiassed way, without allowing ourselves the usual rhapsodies, or deducing any theory of the universe. One extra fact may destroy some {31} existing theory; that is common enough. But no single fact is sufficient to construct one.
from - THE WAY OF ATTAINMENT OF GENIUS

CONTEMPLATION OF THE CONSCIOUSNESS WITH Cittanupassana Meditation - Part 2

‘Evam Me Sutam…’

Mind is the forerunner. It is the mind that is ‘the most amazing show on Earth and Beyond’, by far. And so much more interesting and exciting than anything else, in this Satipatthana practice.

So would you like to watch?

To follow, you may take with you one thing only: Awareness! Because it is not easy for us to experience it first hand in this way.

When we actually practise it, is very hard to see that it is not ‘I’ who is ‘thinking’, ‘paining’, ‘wanting’, ‘planning’, and ‘feeling angry’.

So most people don’t know the knowing mind and very rarely they might get to the point where they can see the knowing mind that is aware of the object.

The only way to go beyond this kind of understanding is to experience that knowing or noting mind as object.

Only when we practice Cittanupassana we can clearly see that another knowing mind arises and becomes aware of the noting mind as its object.

And yet another knowing mind arises and is aware of all of the above! And so on.

Then we can clearly see that noting mind is object and not ‘I’. The idea of ‘knowing’ as ‘I’, simply doesn’t make sense any more.

And that, is not intellectual understanding, that is experiential understanding, that is Dhamma.

People who come from other kinds of practising, often find it difficult to stop having as reference point-anchor the ‘rising and falling’, of the abdomen.

Once you get familiar and able to see the noting mind you will find that the noting mind is just as ‘big’ and reliable if not bigger than the abdominal movement to have as reference point-anchor, in the practice.

The noting mind in this practice is the reference point-anchor, and all other minds are objects.

However Anapana and the ‘rising and falling’ of the abdomen have their use here too.

Most people ask: ‘What is the difference between the Mahasi method and this one?’ The method is the same the technique Also it could be helpful in understanding your own practice better without having to ‘convert’ or change the way you meditate.

This is about ‘the watching of the mind by the mind’ but not separating the mind from the rest of the Foundations of Mindfulness (Kaya-body, Vedana-feelings and Dhamma-mental objects), as this is impossible.

They arise together and are inseparable. A good meditator must be skillful with all of them. By practising Cittanupassana one is practising all of them because when you observe anything, all Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Satipatthana) are already there anyway.

‘Whether you are doing Kaya or Vedana or any other combination, you have to reach the knowing mind, because this is how the Path is. There is no other way.’

Why do I like this approach? Because of the obvious distance that appears between object and observing, which leaves you without a doubt that there is ‘nobody there.’

The question most yogis ask at this point is: But does it work as with the Vipassana Nanas?

YES IT DOES

In case you are wandering, switching from regular Vipassana to Cittanupassana is not going to hurt your meditation. Rather it will make it richer. At least this has been my own personal experience.

It feels like a big step up from where my practice was before although I can combine the two when I want to.

Cittanupassana

Cittanupassana is the ‘Contemplation of the Consciousness’ as mentioned in the Mahasatipatthana Sutta, or as most people understand it simply, ‘the watching of the mind.’

In the Mahasatipatthana sutta e Buddha teaches the Four Foundations of Mindfulness:

Contemplation of the body (Kayanupassana),

Contemplation of Feelings (Vedananupassana),

Contemplation of Consciousness (Cittanupassana) and

Contemplation of Mental Objects (Dhammanupassana).

But what is Contemplation of the Consciousness in practical terms? Think of meditation as the opposite of a frazzled, stressful lifestyle. Learning to meditate is easy, and you will find the advantages of meditation can be varied, so meditation can help anyone in any walk of life.

First, meditation can help you significantly reduce pain. Many people who are in harsh physical pain will look to meditation as a way to release their minds and bodies from experiencing this pain, and most doctors recommend meditation as an alternative medicine. For those of us who suffer from chronic discomforts, such as backaches or arthritis, meditation is a great way to forget the pain altogether for a few minutes and reduce the pain overall in our lives.

Meditation is also a great way to release yourself from experiencing mental or spiritual pain. Many who have recently lost a loved one find that meditation is a way to push harmful and painful thoughts from the mind and create a less stressful life. Religious people also use meditation as a form of prayer or as a form of religious awakening. Although this does not have to be your reason for meditating, if you seek a way in which to connect to the divine, meditation is recommended in most, if not all, of the major world religious. By connecting more deeply to your form of God, you can find inner peace while you are meditating, and this will continue within your everyday life.

Mediation is also a great way to unlock your hidden potential. You may have heard of people who have had ideas “come to them”—this is a goal of meditation. When you have a problem, for example, by meditation, the answer can be made clear. This is true as well for creative blocks—writers and artists who take a break from work to meditate may find their work better when they return from a meditation session. In fact, in any job, meditation is a good way to deal with burnout—sometimes you just need a break from your job in order to make your work better. If you receive short breaks at work, or if you have time after lunch, this is a good time to meditate.

In general, meditation is not only useful for those who wish to solve the above problems. If you are happy and healthy with every aspect of life, you can still benefit from meditating. People who meditate find that their senses are better adjusted to life, and so you will be able to experience better vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.

You can also benefit from meditation by learning the process before you have to deal with stress—those who meditate find it easier to deal with problems that arise. Meditation is also good for pregnant mothers, and couples can meditate together to find inner peace with themselves and peace with one another.

Overall, meditation has almost no disadvantages, and it only takes 15 to 20 minutes every day to learn to enjoy the benefits. Before long, you should be able to clearly see the advantages to this practice showing up in your everyday life.

Mike Garrett has an interest in Speed Meditation. Using exercise for stress relief has long been found to help you feel better. Exercise releases chemicals called endorphins into your body. These are your body's natural "feel good" chemicals, so starting a regular routine of exercise stress relief will help you in lots of ways.

When the word exercise is mentioned, most people immediately start thinking of visits to the gym, pressing weights and other strenuous exercise activities. Whilst you can start your very own exercise stress relief regime in this way, there are other methods of exercise that will help relieve your stress. This is especially important if your health isn't as perfect as it could be.

Aerobic exercise is a simple way to relieve your stress. For instance, you could visit a swimming pool on a regular basis. Your swimming aerobic exercise can be a fun activity and is often also a way to meet new people. Alternatively, you could engage in a regular game of tennis with a friend – singles tennis is generally reckoned to be aerobic. Again, this form of exercise stress relief is simple to start and you get the added benefit of your friend asking when the next game will be. This prompting should be valued. It's much easier to get into a new, healthy, habit with the aid of friends.

If aerobic exercise strikes you as too much like hard work, then think about yoga. The relaxation element of yoga will help your exercise stress relief and can you should be able to start relieving your stress and helping your mind become calmer on a regular basis. Yoga classes are held regularly in most towns and cities. The focus of the study was looking at how people aged 70 plus could ensure their minds stay active by improving their concentration. There are simple meditations techniques that you can use to improve your concentration that if you practice regularly will ensure your mind will maintain is stature.

There are two meditation techniques for improving concentration that are easy to use. The first technique is using the number meditation technique; the second technique is using the object visualization meditation technique.

The Number Meditation Technique:

The first step in this meditation process is to find a comfortable place to sit and close your eyes. The potential distractions are a big issue with this technique because you will be challenged by noise both internally and externally. With both of these techniques I recommend that you do NOT use meditation music.

The next step in this meditation technique is to ensure that your back is straight, with good posture. Start by breathing slowly and lightly. As you are breathing on the exhaled breath visualize the number one in your mind. When you see the number then breathe in. Whilst you are focusing on the number one, breathe out and then visualize the number two. Continue breathing and visualizing each number till you reach one hundred. Once you reach one hundred then you may stop the meditation session.

Here is the catch, you cannot continue to the next number until you only have focus to the previous number. If at any time during your visualization that your mind wanders or starts thinking about something else, you must stop the counting process and start from the number one again.

The objective of using this technique is to help maintain your concentration and ensure that you maintain the focus on the numbers you are counting. You need to practice this technique till you are able count to one hundred without losing focus on the first go. Continue to practice this technique till you have mastered it.

Once you have mastered this technique and have control over your focus, the next step is to use the object visualization technique.

The Object Visualization Technique:

The object visualization technique is designed to help you visualize an object. To start this technique, begin your meditation just as you would any other meditation session.

The first step is visualizing a common object that you know like a flower, a car or a cup. You will find that when you first try the object visualization technique that using a simple object will make life easier to help maintain focus and concentration during the meditation session.

During your meditation session you need to visualize the object by literally drawing it with your mind. Start with an outline, making sure it looks as beautiful as possible. Visualize its shape of the object, the color of the object, any pictures or colors on the object, the texture of the object such as whether it is smooth or rough. Whether there are any words on the object and then rotate the object on a 3D axis. As you are visualizing the object, test to see if the object has a distinct smell in your mind. Visualize that smell clearly in your mind.

Now during the visualization meditation session, should at any point you lose focus and visualize on anything else. Simply stop the visualization process and start again by redrawing the object in your mind. Continue this process for a period of ten minutes each day, till you are able to visualize the object without distraction. You should continue using this technique till you can meditate up to twenty minutes a day using this meditation technique.

The number meditation technique and object visualization meditation technique are designed to help program your mind to concentrate. The more you practice this mediation technique the better your concentration will become and the easier it will be to attain focus during your meditation sessions.
By Chris Le Roy

Spiritual Meditation – Best Way to Find Peace

Do you know what is meditation? It is simply focusing your 100% undivided attention on something for sometime. It’s the road to Bliss and complete independence from all vices. Meditation is the single solution of all problems of life and it gives us incomparable peace and relaxation. It makes us absolutely clear in life and removes all haze in our mind. Meditation gives us an understanding of the real purpose and meaning of our life.

There are many techniques of practising Meditation. Each one is unique in its approach and makes use of different objects as the focus point of channelling the awareness of the Meditator. The Goal is common in all meditation techniques – to increase the level of Awareness. Each session of Meditation goes a long way in this direction. Often many meditators come across a problem, they feel that the method that they are practising has come to a point where it is becoming a monotonous affair and is not leading to increased Awareness. One easy way of overcoming this issue, is to change the meditation technique. One should then choose such a technique which can help in opening the floodgates of his stuck awareness.

One such wonderful Meditation technique is the Sacred Spaces Meditation. It is devised by the Living Enlightened Mystic – Shri Anandmurti Gurumaa. The meditation is based on the Ancient Tibet practise of listening awarefully to certain sounds and the gaps arising between those musical sounds. The object of meditation is the sacred sounds of ancient musical instruments of the Tibet Tradition. The Buddhist Monks and meditators have used these instruments and their musical sounds very successfully through the ages as a means of meditation.

The fact is that even to create the sound out of these sacred instruments also requires the person playing it to be in a certain higher state of Awareness and heightened Consciousness. The meditator focuses his Alertness towards these sounds and this leads to a great improvement in his Awareness levels over time. The mind comes to the present moment and tremendous amount of energy is released.

The usual habit of the mind is to wander around in thoughts and oscillate in pleasure and pain, thus it loses a lot of its energy this way. By the practise of Sacred Spaces Meditation, that energy is prevented from wasting away in useless thoughts and thus we enter a deep state of relaxation and become like a reservoir of energy. We are relaxed completely and experience higher altitudes of Consciousness.

Each session of meditation gives us great lightness and a feeling of Bliss. The routine activities of the day start to reveal new insights that we had never seen before and even the most mundane task becomes divine. We start to see the beauty in every smallest object in our life. Great Satisfaction arises and we achieve the highest potential in our life, which we are totally unaware of right now.

The Sacred Spaces Meditation is a great meditation technique to accompany other techniques or can be practised by itself also. It’s a meditation of the Buddhist line of tradition. The advantage in this Hi-Tech Age is that one does not need to go the deepest caves in the Himalayas to learn such awesome techniques from the Gurus, but its available in the form of musical pre-recorded CD. One can easily make it a part of his daily routine and practice it on his own convenience.

The door to inner harmony and immense bliss is thus within the reach of every individual. Meditation opens the door to ecstatic experiences in this very life and Sacred Spaces Meditation is an easy step towards that point.
By: Vijay Raisinghani

Meditation - A Path Towards A Stress-Free Life

The world is filled with millions of people and as the world is getting more technology oriented one of the major problems that we are coming across these days is true hectic life schedule. The level of hypertension and stress disorder is increasing day by day. Today, certainly meditation is considered to be one of best proven alternative therapies that can broadly classify under the mind-body medicine.

The word meditation is derived from two Latin words: "meditari" which mean to think or exercise the mind and "mederi" to heal. In Sanskrit this word has been derived from 'medha' which actually means wisdom. Moreover according to Zen, meditation is nothing but is an awareness of inner silence and as per Yoga "meditation" is a combination of three steps: pratyahara, dharana and dhyana. Leading to a state of consciousness that brings simplicity, stillness and satisfaction meditation is mental picture of the image of a chosen deity, together with mental repetition of a relevant mantra. Meditation is a safe and simple way where one can balance his or her physical, emotional, and mental states. It is simple; but can benefit everybody.

This is a science or in other words a means of transforming the mind. By engaging ourselves with a particular meditation, one learns the patterns and habits of the mind. Meditation also offers a means to cultivate new and a better positive ways of being. Nowadays more and more doctors are recommending meditation as a best alternative or a medicine to lowerblood pressure. Today, doctors are recommending meditation as a way to lower blood pressure, improve exercise performance in people with angina, help people with asthma breathe easier, relieve insomnia and generally relax the everyday stresses of life.

As per Joan Borysenko, a Ph.D and a pioneer in the field of mind and body medicine stated mediation is an activity that keeps the attention pleasantly anchored in the present moment. Meditation helps to keep us from identifying with the movies of the mind. Meditation is not a technique but a way of life and an art of life. This is one of the few forms of art that involves becoming more aware and more sensitive to what is within us. Today it acts as a mean to join together and is a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns. It is an art that can have a transformative effect and can lead to a new understanding of life.

The author is an aspirant writer on Health. Change so great, it would take our mind just beyond the limit of our current belief and perceptions, a line many are currently unwilling to cross. Now is the time when we feel the overwhelming urge to seek spiritual guidance. The simple practice of daily meditation reconnects us to the eternal source of oneness, from which we are all a part of.

Many people list body and health benefits of meditation such as lower stress, mental clarity, and improved blood pressure, but the spiritual benefits are worth more than words can describe.

*Observing time slow down to the point of questioning its existence is an experience only described through concepts and abstract meanings. It's like taking a relaxing tube ride down the all knowing, always flowing stream of consciousness*

*Experiencing full awareness of the one, omnipresent consciousness, is as humbling as it is exhilarating. It is a powerful reminder that we are on a journey in which we can create anything we want.*

*Achieving deep meditative states allows escape from the ego into a place where judgments and fears are quelled and only pure unconditional love exits.*

*When we achieve these clear, deep realms of stillness, we are reminded that this is our intrinsic nature; pure, timeless, unbounded awareness. We simply are this awareness in a perpetual state of false-awakening as we live a dream of ourselves.*

It is the deep connection we experience during meditation and that enlightens us, and allows us to grow. Achieving deep meditation states can be as easy as breathing deeply and listening to meditation music with binaural beats. Binaural beats help synchronize brain waves and achieve deep, altered states of consciousness. At FreeMeditationMusic.org you'll find 8 free meditation tracks with binaural beats to help you reach those clear, blissful realms of consciousness. These benchmarks also point toward our destiny in the next world.

The first benchmark is knowing for certain that this fabricated personality of ours will not survive death. This we come to understand when we can see the personality for what it is, an invention based merely on thought and memory, a purely material entity that can’t survive physical death.

The second is recognizing the futility of relying on religious rituals, beliefs, or dogma to extricate us from our predicament here on earth, instead of hard work of self inquiry.

The third benchmark is when we no longer have any doubt whatsoever that meditation and self inquiry can free us, not only from physical existence, but from existence itself.
When these three very important benchmarks are reached, and we can’t reach them by thinking that we have reached them but rather after a definite shift in consciousness occurs where we in many ways become a different person and see things in a completely different light, then we will be reborn back into physical existence a maximum of only seven times.
The fourth and fifth benchmarks are a bit unusual in that merely weakening them propels us into a different destiny than conquering them completely. If we weaken them, we only have to be reborn into physical existence and all its complications one more time. When we conquer these two benchmarks completely, then we will no longer be reborn into physical existence at all.

The fourth and fifth benchmarks are anger and sensory desires, which must be first weakened. This is where we still retain some sense of aggravation and annoyance, and also mild desires for pleasurable things appearing in existence. Then, after they are weakened considerably, and with a deepening self inquiry, they are abandoned completely. Now we have no underlying fear that is the root of anger, and no desires for sensual pleasures, We simply eat when it is time to eat, sleep when it is time to sleep, and work when we need to work.

By conquering these first five benchmarks, we become a sage in the eyes of the world, however, in order to become that which no man or woman can comprehend, and go where no man or woman can imagine — beyond existence both in the world of form and the world of none-form, we must conquer the five remaining bench marks.

These five that remain are the residual desires left over after we believe that we have conquered all of our material desires, and they are quite insidious. The five final benchmarks are; wanting to be reborn into the world of form, wanting to be reborn into the formless realm, spiritual restlessness (still searching), pride or self-righteousness (I know), and finally an enduring belief in an eternal self.

These last five are most difficult to conquer because the one struggling to attain them must disappear completely yet somehow remain and function in the world – this is the only way that they can be overcome.

And in order for this to occur, one must be completely enlightened.

Written By:-E. But for all their modern applications, both yoga and meditation have been around for a long, long time.

For more than five thousand years, meditation has been a part of human life. Though it has its roots in Hinduism, most religions throughout the globe practice one form of meditation or another.

Meditation in Buddhism

Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Gautama Buddha, was the founder of Buddhism thousands of years ago. Originally a pampered prince, he fled the palace and sought a life of spiritual enlightenment rather than material wealth. After meditating beneath a sacred fig tree for 49 days, Siddhartha attained enlightenment, which allowed him great insight into the cause of human suffering, as well as the process needed to eliminate it.

Since the Buddha's revelation beneath the sacred fig tree, meditation has been a centerpiece of Buddhism. The meditation techniques they pursue are a part of their goal of reaching Enlightenment and Nirvana, and develop four key areas: mindfulness, insight, concentration and tranquility. These same techniques, however, are often used by non-Buddhists to better their mental and physical health, or to reach other spiritual goals.

Meditation in Hinduism

Meditation actually started as a part of Vedic Hinduism, which is the oldest religion to have meditation as part of it for spiritual and mental enlightenment. Indian scriptures from 5,000 years ago actually describe meditation.

Of the six schools of Hindu philosophy, yoga is the one that focuses on meditation. However, Hinduism has a variety of meditation techniques, each with different focuses for the subject. The ultimate goal for all Hindu meditation is to attain a calm state of mind.

Meditation in Christianity

Though you may not hear about it as much, there are some Christian traditions that can be classified as meditation. Early Christian monks practiced reading the Bible slowly and carefully consider the meanings of each verse, a practice called "lectio divina." It's widely regarded as the first instance of meditation in Christianity. Prayer is also considered a form of meditation.

Enhance your meditation with meditation tools

Five thousand years ago, it was probably a lot easier to clear the mind and focus without cell phones ringing and emails beeping. With the stress and constant state of movement that modern life forces upon us, it can be difficult to completely focus on prayers or on mantra meditation.

In this case, meditation tools can make it easier to focus on meditation and quiet the constant chatter in your mind. Find a quiet place where you can have just 5 or 10 minutes by yourself, without a computer turned on or your cell phone ringing. Once you've gotten to your place, use a meditation tool like the Zen Stick to attain a meditative state quickly and easily. The benefit of entering a meditative state quickly with the Zen Stick is that you need only spend about 5 minutes a day meditating, as opposed to 10 or 20 minutes with regular meditation.

Make an ancient ritual part of your modern life

For centuries, meditation has been an integral part of many religions. Break out of the rut of your daily grind. Let meditation help you better your life mentally, physically, and spiritually.

About the Author
Get started on meditation today. It is generally accepted that the practice originated within the Eastern religions, more particularly within Vedic Hinduism. The chief aim of meditation is to allow the individual to discover a place of inner peace and quiescence. It is a form of personal and spiritual development that acts to free one's mind from the trappings of the physical plain of existence.

In many cases, the act of meditation is an effort to reacquaint oneself with the higher powers. The motivation behind the act of meditation differs from person to person, but it would appear that meditation is performed in a way similar to prayer in western religions. The notion of becoming closer to one's God plays a significant role in most forms of meditation.

In modern times, there has been a significant change in the way individual's approach meditation. Meditation has always been intimately connected to the principles of religion and spirituality. In the west, one gets the sense that practitioners of meditation have little connection to the major organized religions. Meditation, in a sense, has supplanted religion as a way to stay connected with the higher powers.

While meditation has become extremely popular outside of the hierarchy of the church and faith, it is generally accepted that it still exists within the realm of spirituality and ethics. One common thread between modern practitioners of meditation would appear to be the notion of living an ethical lifestyle. In essence, this refers to the ability of the individual to exemplify their internal, spiritual insights in their external, material life.

Meditation has shown to have incredible benefits for committed practitioners. Many people have reported improved concentration, self-discipline, and awareness as a consequence their meditative practices. It has also been known to induce a sense of calm, inner peace and harmony. From a health and fitness perspective, meditation has the ability to relieve stress, and to assist with proper cardiovascular and respiratory function.

Meditation may not be for everyone. But for those individuals that are motivated to make some positive changes in their lives, Meditation may be the key to unlocking the potential within. Do not be eager to dismiss the claims made above. Do some research, and talk to your friends and family. There is a good chance that somebody you know has benefited from meditative practice. It could help you, too.

Brodi Saatpha has been practicing Yoga for a number of years. Guided meditation may utilize soothing photographs or scenarios to enhance the ability of the mind to relax and guide the body to a point of relaxation so that the person in meditation can find a true sense of inner peace. Quite often, guided meditation will be accompanied by soft music

or sounds of nature.

One of the keys to successfully having a session of Guided meditation is finding an area where the one meditating will be free of distractions. Any outside interference will prevent proper concentration and make the attempts at guided meditation futile and perhaps even frustrating, further aggravating the problem seeking to be solved by the very use of guided meditation.

After finding a suitable location for guided meditation, other factors need to be taken into consideration. Some practitioners of guided meditation feel that visual stimuli can be used to help achieve a sense of inner peace and help to achieve true relaxation. Still other practitioners of guided meditation feel that any outside visual simulation will detract from the mind’s ability to properly focus on the body and the results of the guided meditation will be hindered or even reversed.

The same can be said for audio stimulation during sessions of guided meditation. While some individuals believe that soothing sound effects or even quiet music is conducive to the guided meditation, still others believe that it is only a hindrance and will do nothing more than create a harmful atmosphere for the practitioner of such guided meditation.

The basic concept of guided meditation is to relax. This is done by taking oneself on a guided tour of sorts through their own body. In the practice of guided meditation, it is normal to find a focus point in the body and begin there, someplace that is easy to relax. While staying focused on the body and in particular the muscles, the practitioner of guided meditation attempts to relax the muscles of the body. Allowing the body to completely relax allows the practitioner of guided meditation to next completely relax the mind.

When the mind and body are completely relaxed, the person can begin to concentrate on focusing his thoughts and ideas during the guided meditation. When using guided meditation, thoughts are usually thought to be transcendent and more in focus allowing the practitioner to perform better in all aspects of life. Whether or not guided meditation is right for a person is not only dependent on spiritual beliefs. Anyone contemplating the benefits of guided meditation must be seeking to improve themselves as a whole as well.

Free Self Improvement http://freeselfimprovement.com/ examines all aspects of self improvement: hypnosis, meditation, motivation, personal development, stress reduction.

Benefits and Techniques of Meditation

Healthy mind lives in a healthy body, it is perfectly truth because your happiness depends on your mind and it depends on your body. They are highly inquisitive about learning meditation and all related to this unique form of contemplation that unites body, mind and soul.

Experts who have been practicing meditation for years feel that learning meditation is not a cake walk. One needs a lot of research, will power and little knowledge about the topic prior to getting into the act. Also if you are meditating for a special purpose, make sure that you have complete trust on the power of meditation and its’ ability to let you achieve what you desire. This is the only way to learn meditation and get benefited from it.

When you initiate with meditation, it will be quite difficult for you in the beginning. The reason is that there are several changes in your body and mind.

The mind does not like to stop thinking and most people find it difficult to sit still for long periods. This is the reason that most people have many doubts regarding meditation and its benefits in the long run.

Here is an important piece of advice related to how to approach meditation and deal with certain problems:

a) The power of thinking

Most people when meditating for the first one. They will also find it surprising about how busy their mind really is. Most scientists estimate that about 80,000 thoughts go through the mind every day. There are a lot of things inside the brain. This is the main reason why people often feel quite isolated and separate from one another.

The brain is over loaded with various thoughts. These thoughts are further divided into several smaller thoughts. As soon as a person sits on a cushion and classes his eyes, the mind opens to the power of thought and its hold on them.

When someone starts the process of meditation, one finds it hard to concentrate and meditate. The feeling can even arise that it is hard to stay still because no one is used to stay still for so long. This is very normal.

b) Being still

Deep inside the mind, there is something real and stability that each one of us is capable to focus on. This is pure consciousness. One requires to get into tune with the breath one takes in and through out. This eventually leads to peace of mind, reduction of cravings and feeling of oneness with the rest of the world.

a) Positive energy

The positive energy inside a person gets increased and deeply routed via following the instructions of a good teacher. A good teacher can help a student with important thing such as posture and how to practice. The possible energy is very important to carry out any task successfully. This fills you up with a lot of hope, faith and will desires you have in life.

Starting off with meditation may be difficult. However, you will be able to get used to the act.
By:Bertil Hjert
